Dermis

The Dermis is the middle layer of the skin, sitting underneath the epidermis. It is around five times thicker than the epidermis and consists of connective tissue, capillaries, sebaceous glands, hair follicles and nerves. The Dermis gives the skin its firmness, helps the body to maintain a constant temperature and registers sensations from touch, heat and pain.

Wrinkles and fine lines develop in the Dermis, so anti-aging products that penetrate this layer will be the most effective, as the majority of the elastin and collagen proteins are found in this layer of the skin.
