Alpha-Hydroxy Acid/AHAs

There are five major types of Alpha-Hydroxy Acids, which all derive from either fruit or milk sugars. They are clever exfoliators that work to remove the dead surface skin cells so that new ones can grow and take their place, making AHAs a popular ingredient in anti-aging and resurfacing skin care products and treatments.

Glycolic and Lactic Acid are the most well-known AHAs and can be found in products that reduce wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and uneven texture. Because it is an acid, it can cause irritation, redness and itchiness when applied to skin so sensitive skin types should avoid products with a high concentration of AHAs.
