Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs)

Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs) are formed when sugar molecules attach themselves to proteins and fats like collagen within the body and damage their structure. Sugar causes the collagen proteins to stiff and become misshapen which makes them less supportive. This leads to a weakening of the skin and an acceleration of ageing.

Too many AGEs in the skin can also make it more vulnerable to other aggressors like UV light, pollution and cigarette smoke which are all packed with damaging free radicals. To combat the effects of AGEs on the skin, look for products that contain Blueberry Extract or Alpha Lipoic Acid, as these help to slow this process so the skin remains looking youthful for as long as possible.
