Power Pairs: Ingredients That Work Better Together

Sometimes, the key to tackling your skin concerns isn’t by using a huge amount of products, it’s more about marrying ingredients together that work harmoniously. Like tea and a biscuit, some ingredients just work better together so let’s learn more about some powerful ingredient combinations that you need to try.

Vitamin C and Vitamin E

Let’s talk about two potent antioxidants that really do need each other. Vitamin C is that powerful antioxidant that helps to regulate melanin, aid collagen production and tackle any pigmentation problems. However, this ingredient can be a little unstable and stubborn but when it’s paired with Vitamin E, it becomes more stable and effective at preventing photodamage than either vitamin alone. Both work by negating free radicals but each combats different types of UV damage so by combining the two, you’ll be giving your skin double the antioxidant ammunition it needs to fight damage.

Salicylic Acid and Niacinamide

Calling all acne-prone complexions, this is the duo for you. Salicylic Acid is a powerful, pore-cleansing BHA and because of its ability to reduce inflammation, assist with exfoliation and decongest the pores, it’s a go-to ingredient for complexions that frequently encounter breakouts. Niacinamide is an anti-inflammatory antioxidant that boosts skin barrier function and has proven itself time and time again when calming conditions such as rosacea. These two ingredients are great for layering as one will take care of acne-causing bacteria while the other provides comfort and nourishment, keeping any potential irritation at bay.

Hyaluronic Acid and Retinol

If you don’t already know the punch that these two ingredients pack, then get to know. Retinol, or Vitamin A, is a powerful active that is hugely popular due to its ability to tackle the signs of ageing, however, it must be used with caution as it has the ability to cause irritation and aggravate the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is known as a hydration powerhouse, not only assisting with water retention within the surface layers of the skin but it also helps to strengthen as well. By pairing your Retinol of choice with a pure Hyaluronic Acid product, you’ll be able to balance the often abrasive effects of Vitamin A while allowing your skin to better absorb the anti-aging and moisture-boosting benefits.

Green Tea and Caffeine

Both of these ingredients are great sources of antioxidants but when used together, they can provide effective protection against free radicals. Caffeine, of course, is known for its energising properties and ability to reduce puffiness whereas Green Tea hydrates and soothes the skin. Combine them, and you’ll be able to give your skin an energy boost while calming any inflammation or irritation which is especially beneficial first thing in the morning.
