It’s great having a carefully cultivated body care routine for most of the year, but during the winter months, our skin can take a turn for the worse. Skin that once only needed a thin layer of moisturiser may now be crying out for rich body butters and balms, and you may start to notice unfamiliar flakiness and tightness. So what can you do to help maintain hydrated, glowing skin from head to toe in the coming cold months? Here are a few of our go-tos…
Hydration is key
Throughout the winter, your skin is going to crave a lot of moisture due to the harsh winds, biting frosts and dramatic drop in temperature. However, when the temperature drops, the last thing anyone wants to be doing post-shower is stand around waiting for a thick cream to sink in, so look for something that is going to absorb quickly yet still provide plenty of hydration, like the BABOR SPA Balancing Body Souffle. This luxurious body cream is very rich but melts into the skin quickly, so it won’t feel heavy. It is formulated with Shea Butter to support the lipid layer and Argan Oil to plump and nourish the driest of skins.
Scrub it away
To ensure that your moisturising products are going to deeply penetrate the skin and actually do what they say on the tin, aim to exfoliate at least once a week. This will remove the build-up of dead cells and preps the skin for further treatments. We love the Cosmedix Polish Dual Action Body Scrub which buffs away dull, dead cells to reveal velvety-smooth, radiant-looking skin. It is also infused with fresh Lavender, Grapefruit Oil and Eucalyptus, which leave a delicate scent behind after it’s been rinsed off. Another skin-transforming scrub is the Decléor 1000 Grain Body Exfoliator which is an oil-to-milk formula that leaves the skin feeling supple and looking radiant. Pearl Sugar, Argan Shell and Orange Peel work together to effectively remove rough patches and dead cells, ensuring skin is left feeling buttery smooth instead of dry or tight.
If body butters and creams aren’t for you, try switching to an oil – they can take moisturising from a chore to a full spa day experience. The relaxing Bergamont, Orange and Neroli scents of Dermalogica’s Phyto Replenish Body Oil will definitely transport you to a relaxing spa, whilst calming and nourishing the skin with Fermented Red Ginseng. Alternatively, Tata Harper’s Revitalizing Body Oil is quick to absorb and covers the body in a wealth of essential minerals and vitamins. It’s packed with Evening Primrose Oil, Camellia Oil and Alfalfa Extract which leave the skin looking and feeling reinvigorated.
Let it glow
Just because it’s chilly, it doesn’t mean that you need to lose your summer glow. A luxurious tanning product like James Read’s Coconut Melting Tanning Balm Face & Body is the perfect way to keep your summer glow all winter long. It deeply nourishes the skin and leaves it feeling beautifully soft and hydrated, before developing into a healthy sun-kissed tan in just a few hours.
