SkinCeuticals are true pioneers when it comes to ingredients and ensure that effective antioxidants are always at the forefront of their product formulation, so when it comes to hyperpigmentation, they have some impressively potent products to help tackle uneven skin tone. To help you banish dark spots and discolouration, we’ve put together a five-step routine using our favourite tone-brightening SkinCeuticals products…
Step One: Cleanse and tone
Start your routine with a gentle and refreshing cleanser like the Simply Clean. It’s formulated with fruit acids which gently refine skin texture and remove impurities such as make-up and excess sebum. To restore balance after cleansing, apply the Equalizing Toner which is packed with Kiwi, Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera extract to hydrate, soothe and restores the skin’s optimum pH level, whilst preparing it for the next step in your routine: a serum.
Step Two: Prevent
The next step in any pigmentation-fighting routine is to apply an antioxidant serum, like the Phloretin CF which combines 2% Phloretin, 10% L-Ascorbic Acid and 0.5% Ferulic Acid to promote a brighter, firmer-looking complexion. This potent serum also actively seeks out free radicals within the skin and destroys them before they can damage vital collagen stores and cause DNA mutations which can lead to the development of dark spots.
Step Three: Correct
One of SkinCeuticals’ core philosophies is correction, so their range is packed with products that are focused on addressing the visible signs of ageing and environmental damage. For hyperpigmentation, they have the new Discolouration Defense Serum which formulated with 1.8% Tranexamic Acid to prevent further darkening of the skin and 5% HEPES, a type of acid which activates the skin’s natural enzymes to effectively exfoliate the skin, to deliver a more even and radiant skin tone.
Step Four: Hydrate
After applying your active serums, it’s time to hydrate the skin. The SkinCeuticals Daily Moisture is designed to nourish and balance the skin without leaving a greasy film on the surface. It’s very lightweight, plus it’s packed with skin-loving ingredients such as Vitamin E and Brazillian Sea Algae which provide the skin with vital minerals and proteins.
Step Five: Protect
One of the biggest causes of uneven skin tone is UV damage, so using a daily SPF is a must whatever the season. The Ultra Facial Defense SPF50 is a lightweight sunscreen that combines antioxidants with state-of-the-art filters to provide broad-spectrum protection against UVB and UVB rays, ensuring any future sun-induced discolouration is kept to an absolute minimum.
